Overview

Culinary Arts 

Students in the Culinary Arts pathway gain practical culinary skills that increase in complexity throughout the program. The program begins with a food handler’s course were student gain their food handler’s certification. The course provides students with an overview of food safety issues, regulations, and techniques to maintain a food-safe environment. Students then take a beginner’s level course introducing them to topics such as knife skills, basic nutrition, appetizers, sandwiches, baking, and menu planning. After mastering the basics, the next two years of the program focus on advanced-level food preparation which includes cooking vegetables, meats, poultry, seafood pasta, and grains; creating sauces and dressing; baking; and making soup. While mastering culinary techniques, students also learn entrepreneurial concepts, explore career options, and participate in work-based learning experiences.

Clerical

Students in ATA's clerical program perform administrative work based skills transferable to the workplace, under the supervision of a teacher and teacher assistants. Students learn how to photocopy, laminate, organize, file and fax documents. During their work sessions, students also learn clerical tasks such as politely answering the phones and relaying messages.

Buildings and Grounds

Students involved in the custodial worksite program engage in rigorous learning and hands-on work to prepare them for employment in the custodial field - including maintenance, building upkeep and more. We are currently working to connect our students with OSHA training to ensure that they are certified and ready to work as a part of their transition out of high-school.

FOOD TOWN SUPERMARKET

Our community partner FoodTown opened their store as a host for students to sharpen their communication, problem- solving and interpersonal skills.  Aveyron Technical Academy (ATA) students serve as cashier assistants or assistant stockers.  Daily students report to this worksite and are given task that range from stocking shelves, serving as a cashier, and even general maintenance this allows them real hands on experience in the field of retail.

STRONG PLACE DAYCARE

Aveyron Technical Academy (ATA) students work part-time at Strong Place for Hope Daycare where they attend on a daily basis under the supervision of a paraprofessional.  The students who attend this work-study program engage in independent task such as organizing children play area, assist with nap time prep and clean up, assist with  lunch set up and clean up, assist teacher led activities and during selected opportunities led their own activities with the children that attend this site.  ATA students develop their technical skills in the area of strengthening their communication and decision-making skills as well as support their development in exploring job opportunities within the childcare field.
